TOEFL iBT® Test Content

The TOEFL iBT® test has 4 sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. During the test, you'll perform tasks that combine these 4 English communication skills, such as 

The total test takes about 3 hours to complete, but you should plan for 3½ hours, allowing 30 minutes for check-in.

Reading

Reading

  • Questions: 30–40 questions
  • Duration: 54–72 minutes
  • Reading 3 or 4 passages from the academic texts and answering questions based on them.
Listening

Listening

  • Questions: 28-38
  • Duration: 41-57 minutes
  • Listening to lectures, conversations, classroom discussions, and, then answer questions based on them.
Speaking

Speaking

  • Questions: 4 Tasks
  • Duration: 17 minutes
  • Listening to lectures, conversations, classroom discussions, and, then answer questions based on them.
Writing

Writing

  • Questions: 2 tasks
  • Duration: 50 minutes
  • Candidates need to write essay responses based on reading and listening tasks, along with supporting the opinion in writing.
